Eating Disorder Dietitian - Adolescents & Teens
My passion for eating disorders began when obtaining my master’s degree at Northern Illinois University where I earned my certificate of graduate study in eating disorders. I had the honor of working in the hospital setting and in the intensive care unit where I was able to help individuals across differing health statuses while also being an advocate to challenge weight stigma in the healthcare setting. I then started my career in the eating disorder field and have nearly 5 years of experience in higher levels of care working with adolescents and adults at the partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) levels of care. Lastly, I enjoy supporting all aged individuals with their relationship with food and have had experience with providing education to the community on eating disorder awareness and the harmful effects of diet culture.
Amanda's Approach
My philosophy as a dietitian is rooted in empathy and individualized care. My years of experience have taught me to be a listener and a supporter on everyone’s unique nutrition journey and to create a safe space for individuals to be seen and heard. I practice from a food neutral approach to help people break free from the confusing and conflicting rules of diet culture. I enjoy bringing humor into sessions when appropriate but stay true to meeting individuals where they are at to help guide them towards a relationship with food that feels peaceful, nourishing and freeing.
About Amanda Combs
When not in the office, you can find me cuddling my two dachshunds, Basil and Fennel, while curled up with a good book. I love exploring the outdoors, traveling, thrifting, going to concerts (specifically emo music from the early 2000’s) and am always on a mission to find the best cup of coffee. I find relaxation when engaging in a creative outlet, such as crocheting, while rewatching Gilmore Girls.
