When to seek help?

Some warning signs to consider:
  • Food rules ( “I can’t” statements) and food judgments
  • Skipping meals, or avoiding certain types of food
  • Body comments or body comparisons
  • Very slow or very rapid meal times
  • Preoccupation with food

How we can help:

We believe in meeting families where they are at in providing guidance to navigate through all intricacies of eating disorders. This is why we incorporate FBT (family based therapy) principles into client sessions to help parents learn what appropriate nourishment and support looks like for their child based on their individual needs and lifestyles. Our trained professionals can help you navigate through some of the barriers that you might be experiencing:

  • Releasing the pressure from the caregiver
  • Navigating School
  • Support around physical activity
  • Collaboration between different members of the care team

What are Food Exposures?:

Many individuals struggling with eating disorders and disordered eating struggle with the ability to incorporate a variety of foods into their diet, thus often leading to unbalanced meals which can lead to nutrient deficiencies. The thoughts and feelings that arise when presented with certain foods can leave one feeling overwhelmed, guilty, and discouraged. We want you to know that life doesn’t always have to feel this way.

During individual sessions with your dietitian, you can create a plan for incorporating the foods that maybe you once really enjoyed or some foods that you may fear the most to help you stay nourished and relieve some stress around food. Everyone moves through recovery at their own pace, and your dietitian can help you determine where to start. You will have one-on-one support from your dietitian to cope with emotions and thoughts that arise during food exposures.

Through continued repetition of incorporating these foods, you will gain the proper skills to use in independent settings to help you eat and incorporate all foods without daunting stress.
